I can't take any writer seriously if they can't even spell "Furthur" right.

The comparison of trading tapes in the parking lot to Napster file sharing is absurd.

Besides failing to substantiate a single point about apple with any real information (HOW did apple break rules? What does Jobs actually DO to earn the title legendary) this blog-post misses the point of an effective comparison. I don't feel meaningfully enlightened about either object. Not to mention the fact that Apple, at their best, plays the games of finances extraordinarily well, while the Dead, at their best (IMHO 1973-74), seemed to sweat money from every pore. Maybe the point about brands started to pay off in the 80's/90's, but overall no go in my book.

On a related subject, does anyone know if Steve Jobs is/ has ever been into the dead? Just curious where this is coming from.

YOU CAN BRAND LIKE A ROCK STAR !!! - STEVE!

Just type in, 'Grateful Dead Business Plan', (what an oxymoron) on any search engine, a la viral marketing. So hot, hot, hot a buzz word.

("I can get you in on the ground floor, baby.", "Oh thank-you Steve!")

Combine that with Steve's(!) internet branding service and you are on your way to a late night infomercial. Steve(!) did pick two groups that have a high loyalty to their brands, plus some cross pollinating. So some points there. He'll get a few more gigs at the Sheraton in Tulsa on a Tuesday to Rock On(!), b/c his schedule does seem a bit open. Unless Apple's lawyers come calling. On second thought, maybe the 'Dead's' too.

Glib Comparison Number Six:

The Grateful Dead drew a bunch of folks who were basically about making money in the lot using their name.

Apple has ... a guy who writes a book and promotes it on a blog making shallow comparisons for the money.

(OK, fine. Good for him. He's mastered the fine art of Search Engine Optimization. Hey, he can be hired as a speaker on that, too!)

I had a sneaking feeling when I posted that link last night that I was throwing the virtual equivalent of a bucket of chum into the forum sharkpool. I was not disappointed.

Apple is like the Dead?

I wasn't aware the Dead had opened up a chain of 300+ stores selling their licensed merchandise.
